Born in Houston, Texas to Elmer and Virginia Knox. I grew up in the Garden Oaks/Oak Forest area. I attended Oak Forest Elementary, Frank Black Junior High, and S. P. Waltrip High Schools. After graduation, I entered Houston Baptist College and graduated May, 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts. I received a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth in December, 1973.
During my junior year of college, I married Janice Kaye Bonds. Jan and I have two grown children. Kevin is married to Allison, and they have two children, Karson and Kelsey. Kevin is a manager in research and development for Dell Computers and lives in Cedar Park. Julie is married to Johnny Johnson, and they have two children, Ashley and Will. Julie works for Wells Fargo Corporate and lives in Austin. Johnny is the editor for two newspapers in the Cedar Park area.
I have served in various church capacities since 1969—youth director, music director, education/administration, associate pastor, senior pastor, and have been Associate Pastor for Education/Administration for Lufkin’s First Baptist Church since 2000.
My favorite food is Tex/Mex.
I have officiated high school athletics for over 30 years—basketball, softball, and football. I continue to officiate high school football today. When I am not on the football field and have some spare time, I enjoy playing golf particularly with my son.
I enjoy action and science fiction movies. I have seen and own all the Star Wars films. I also enjoy the Harrison Ford movies.
Jan and I love to vacation with our grandchildren and look forward to the day when we can take all four of them to DisneyWorld.
Serving LFBC has been a joy! I have had the opportunity to watch several of our youth grow to maturity and get married. I have also been able to be a part of the renewed vitality which seems to permeate the ministries of our church.
